When Jodi M’s granddaughter comes to town, they have discovered that working out at the The ZOO is something they really enjoy doing together. Each has her own goals and they help each other stay motivated towards those goals. Here is Jodi M’s story …
When did you join The ZOO?
I started at The ZOO in April, with Personal Training sessions with Eileen. Then my husband was diagnosed with cancer and my mother fell and was in rehab, so I didn’t have the time to continue with my workouts. When my granddaughter Caprial came to visit in June, I was able to bring her in to The ZOO as a guest on my membership so we started working out together. She motivates me to keep going … and she says I do the same for her. We love each other and want to see each other do well.
What is your exercise routine?
We exercise every other day, doing a circuit on the strength machines for 40-50 minutes, doing 3 sets of 15 reps. Then we do 30 minutes of walking or on the elliptical machine.
What are your fitness goals:
Coming here is hard, because I work all day. In my job, I do a lot of sitting so I want to offset that with more regular physical activity. I am still building up my stamina, because I’m tired all the time. I am trying out the exercise approach to see if it helps with my energy level. In fact, today was the first day I was ready to go and start my workout!! So, I’m getting there.
And like everybody else, I want to lose weight! But it was just not fun exercising by myself. Working out with my granddaughter and hearing “Grammy” while I work out makes it so much more interesting. I have lost a little weight, 16lbs, which I’m very happy and encouraged about.
What else do you do to support your fitness journey?
I discovered I was dehydrated!! So I drink much more water now, I think I’m up to 107oz a day!!
What advice would you give to others?
Find a workout buddy, someone who you really enjoy being with, it makes it more fun!
